Kennel Tal-Wardija
Klieb tal-Fenek from Malta

Ch. Tal-Wardija Arja Helwa (Cetta), carrying the Maltese national colours
at a demonstration run in Greppin (Germany).

My wife and I are the proud owners of the "Tal Wardija Kennels". My love for the Kelb tal-Fenek - the National Hound of Malta - started when I was quite young. I remember that at around the age of 9, I often visited friends in Mellieha (a town in Malta), who owned particularly beautiful dogs. Since my childhood I have had various opportunities to be invited with friends for a hunt. The hunting prowess and high performance of these perfectly adaptable hunting dogs is a sight to behold. Today, I am an active, keen hunter, and therefore I am well engaged in the breed. In our family we presently own two Klieb tal-Fenek, which we successfully show and which are also used for hunting wild rabbits.

My aim as a breeder is to preserve the Kelb tal-Fenek as it was bred by countless generations in Malta; to breed keen hunting dogs, whose beauty is simply the result of the breed's efficiency. I have chosen my breeding stock exclusively from Maltese hunters who use their hounds for the purpose of hunting rabbits.

From two litters, I am proud to say that I have exported puppies to Germany, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Norway and the United States of America. Thus, in my small way, contribute to increase the genetic pool within the Kelb tal-Fenek population world wide.

On this site you will find Portraits of Tal-Wardija Klieb tal-Fenek in Malta and abroad, written by the owners - my good friends!

Other than being proud of the successes of my “babies” in the show ring, hunting and lure coursing, I am happy that all of them are adored and cared for by their families simply as wonderful companions.

I would be more than happy if people all over the world recognise the breed as it really is – Il-Kelb tal-Fenek, the National Hound of Malta.

You can find a thorough breed information on my website www.kelb-tal-fenek.com.

My Kennel prefix "Tal-Wardija" (of Wardija) is derived from the village Wardija in the Northwest of Malta. The Wardija area is a typical hunting area for the Kelb tal-Fenek, and it is the place from where I got my first breeding stock.
